AOL Hires First Mobile Chief from Millennial Medias Ranks

Six months after acquiring mobile advertising platform Millennial Media in a $238m deal, AOL has promoted two Millennial executives to senior roles within the parent company.

Mark Connon, who was previously EVP at Millennial Media, has been appointed global chief mobile officer at AOL. His remit will be to lead the companys mobile strategy and grow revenue on what the company does on mobile.

Millennial Media was acquired by AOL back in October, six months after AOL itself was bought by American operator Verizon.

Tim Armstrong, Connons new boss, says his new hire is the perfect man to take AOLs mobile offerings further. “With Verizon’s deep expertise and investment, and bolstered by our recent acquisition of Millennial Media, AOL is uniquely positioned to lead the global mobile revolution,” he says. “Mark’s deep industry expertise will ensure mobile continues to be innovative and at the forefront of AOL’s platforms, products, and media properties.”

For his part, Connon says hes looking forward to his new gig. “The ways in which we consume content and generate revenue have made drastic shifts toward mobile,” he says. “Audiences and advertisers alike seek a connection to drive relevancy and reach. I am excited to take on this role and help accelerate AOL’s powerful mobile opportunity.”

AOL has also raided Millennial Media for its MD. Zac Pinkham, previously managing director at Millennial, has been appointed VP, international mobile at AOL. The company says Pinkham will build and lead AOLs international mobile strategy.

He will report to Mark Connon and head of global demand Philip Duffield; Connon will report to AOL CEO Tim Armstrong.
