Apple News introduces factual Midterm Elections section

Apple News 2018 US Midterm ElectionsApple News now has a section dedicated to this year’s US Midterm Elections as it looks to provide users with ‘trustworthy’ and ‘reliable’ information around the important political period.

The section offers an area where political news seekers in the US can see breaking news, highlights, and analysis from sources selected by Apple News’ editors. Coverage can be seen from Fox News, Vox, and other publishers, while exclusive features will appear from the likes of The Washington Post, Axios, and Politico.

Furthermore, the section includes two special features, both of which will showcase stories curated by Apple News’ editors from trusted publishers. ‘The Conversation’ is a collection of opinion columns about important issues surrounding the elections, while ‘On the Ground’ will focus on localised reporting on issues affecting constituents of a specific area.

“Today more than ever people want information from reliable sources, especially when it comes to making voting decisions,” said Lauren Kern, editor-in-chief of Apple News. “An election is not just a contest; it should raise conversations and spark national discourse. By presenting quality news from trustworthy sources and curating a diverse range of opinions, Apple News aims to be a responsible steward of those conversations and help readers understand the candidates and the issues.”

The 2018 Midterm Elections hub can be accessed from a banner across the top of the ‘For You’ tab, through ‘Top Stories’, or via the ‘Spotlight’ tab. The section will remain available to US readers through the elections in November.
