NYT Partners with RTJ for VR Music Issue

VRTJThe New York Times Magazine has promoted its first Music Issue with two Virtual Reality films.

These consist of a film accompanying a feature in the magazine, on Syd Tha Kyd and The Internet, and a 360° music video for hip-hop duo Run The Jewels for their song “Crown”. Both are available exclusively through the NYT VR app, which is designed to be used with Google Cardboard.

For the newspaper, this is the latest of its forays into VR, which began with the launch of The Displaced, a news piece about refugee children, and its giveaway of 1m Cardboard headsets, in November.

For Run The Jewels, meanwhile, this is just a first step, as it tries to find its sea legs with the new technology. The band is launching its own VR platform, VRTJ, with more content promised in the coming months, and is releasing branded Cardboard headsets as part of next months Record Store Day.
