Snapchat introduces Discover to Germany, while the New York Times finally arrives

Snapchat Discover New York TimesSnapchat will today (25 April) be launching its Discover section in Germany, enabling media outlets in to begin publishing content in German on the platform.

Starting with Bild, Spiegel Online, Sky Sport, and Vice, each publishers’ daily collection of German-language stories will disappear after 24 hours – the same as general messages on the app.

Snapchat’s Discover expansion into Germany is the fourth international version of the section so far. It began in English at the start of 2015 before arriving in French in September 2016, while a small Norwegian version launched with only one publisher in January this year.

“We want Snapchatters everywhere to have content that is relevant to them, in their own language, from trusted media brands,” said Nick Bell, Snaps VP of content, in a statement to Business Insider. “Starting today, German Snapchatters will for the first time have local content in Germany, in German, from German publishers.”

In addition to branching out into Germany, Snapchat has also welcomed the New York Times to its Discover section. As we first revealed back in February, the publication has launched a daily edition, based on its Morning Briefing, to the Discover section. It will be published on weekday mornings, focusing heavily on visual content, and even includes a mini-crossword puzzle to complement the news.
