Uber riders can now earn cash back on purchases made with the Cargo Store app

Cargo, the in-car commerce provider for Uber, has launched the new Cargo Store app, which allows passengers to make purchases mid-ride, and also earn 10 per cent Uber cash back for each transaction. Passengers can use this 10 per cent cash back credit on future Uber rides or Cargo purchases. Drivers will be able to benefit as well, as they will earn $1 for every passenger that orders from the Cargo Store app for the first time.

With the launch of the app, Cargo has included new incentives for passengers to spend money in their Uber, including “Daily Deals”, which include cash back on high priced items like the Nintendo Switch, Ray Ban Wayfarers, Amazon Echo, Away Luggage, and Quip oral care products. Any products purchased mid-ride will be sent to the passenger’s house with no shipping cost.

“We constantly optimize for the best rider experience. The App makes it easier for riders to purchase their favorite products, but the big news is Daily Deals. Surveyed riders told us they frequently shop on-trip, so we put best sellers at their fingertips, ship for free to their homes, and offer 10 per cent Uber cash back on every purchase,” said Jeff Cripe, Cargo co-founder and CEO. “In true Cargo form, it’s a win-win: Drivers earn more and riders get a great on-trip experience.”

Riders can also earn one reward per day, by scanning their driver’s Cargo Box QR code and picking from a randomized set of cards, which will then reveal their prize. Prizes include Uber Voucher credits, a $30-discount on SeatGeek tickets, and Apple AirPods. A partnership between Cargo and Universal Pictures will also allow riders to purchase movies from the Cargo Store app at discounted rates of up to 50 per cent.
