Alibaba and Intersport partner for retail technologies

Tmall, the Alibaba-owned consumer platform for brands and retailers, has unveiled a series of innovations it has introduced to the flagship store of Chinese sportswear brand Intersport. The firms New Retail technologies and solutions have helped transform the store in the Qianmen region of Beijing into a New Retail megastore.

Intersport has worked with Tmall to leverage the companys New Retail infrastructure throughout the store, covering customer insights, supply chain management, retail technologies, smart logistics and electronic payments.

“Intersport is delighted to open our first New Retail store in partnership with Alibabas Tmall,” said Victor Duran, CEO of Intersport. “The world-class technologies from Alibabas Tmall will give our customers an entirely new shopping experience and help us link our offline and online activities.”

Among the innovations is an interactive window display that engages consumers with AR games and provides personalised recommendations based on age and gender. These recommendations can then be accessed via smartphone using QR codes.

Elsewhere in the store, customers can use smart mirrors with AI shopping assistants that provide additional info and recommendations, smart shelves with interactive wall screens and virtual shopping bags that blend the online and offline retail experience.

“We are excited to see an extensive range of Tmalls New Retail technologies and features under one roof in Intersports store,” said Jessica Liu, president of Tmall Fashion & Luxury. “Whats even more encouraging is to see our merchants embracing the New Retail concept and exploring its potential. When customers try out these features firsthand, we are confident that they will see the convergence of online and offline shopping as the future of retail.”
