US sports broadcaster ESPN is launching its flagship SportsCenter show on Snapchat from today (13 November) at 5pm ET.

SportsCenter’s arrival makes it the first-ever daily sports show on the platform. Shows, which will last between three and five minutes, will be brought to the popular multimedia app twice a day at 5am and 5pm on weekdays, and once at 5am on weekends.

The hosting crew includes Katie Nolan, Elle Duncan, Cassidy Hubbarth, Jason Fitz, and Cy Amundson – who will take it turns to the latest sports news, highlights, and commentary to a Snapchat audience.

“SportsCenter on Snapchat provides a creative new format and platform for our flagship franchise to continue to evolve,” said Connor Schell, executive VP of content at Disney-owned ESPN. “Katie, Elle, Cassidy, Jason and Cy collectively bring a new style, energy and substance that I believe will connect with Snapchat’s audience in a real way. I’m thrilled to bring this level of talent and personality to a new and innovative daily touchpoint for ESPN.”

According to ESPN, fans on ESPN.com and the ESPN app have viewed nearly 1.2m SportsCenter video clips so far in 2017 – more than 4m per day – and have logged nearly 67.7m hours of time streaming SportsCenter content through the app alone.

“The original SportsCenter defined and changed the way people watched sports,” said Sean Mills, head of original content at Snap Inc. “Today the enormous changes resulting from technology, especially mobile, are having a huge impact on how sports fans follow their favourite players and teams, not to mention fundamentally changing the conversations around sports.”
