Google speeds up mobile search by eliminating web results

Google has made a move to speed us mobile search queries by removing web links from the results of search queries that can be answered by its built-in tools, including the calculator, unit converter and clock. When a user enters a search term that can be answered by one of the built-in tools, they simply see the search query and the answer below.

The move was first spotted by 9to5Google.com and confirmed by Google to Search Engine Land.

The single results appear when Google has “extremely high confidence” that it can directly answer the user’s query. In the case of a unit conversion, the results page also displays a tool for completing other conversions, while arithmetic query results are accompanied by a calculator.

Users can see the full results by clicking on a ‘Show all results’ link.
