Subway Updates Loyalty App with Location-based Push Notifications

SubwaySubway has updated its Subcard loyalty app, introducing geotargeted promotions as well as custom sandwich builder and calorie calculator features.

As users choose the contents of their sandwich, the app displays a full nutritional breakdown, showing how the calorie count changes as ingredients are added or removed.

The app will also use push notifications to send users offers, nationally and regionally, using location data, starting with the Great Subcard Giveaway competition, launching alongside the update, which gives users a one-in-four chance to win a number of prizes whenever they use their card in store.

Subway says it is investing heavily in the mobile development of the Subcard programme, in response to consumer demand – with a third of all new registrants being created in the app – and the results it has seen so far – app users visit a Subway store 3.5 times more regularly and spend on average 22p more per visit than plastic card users.
