Windows 9 Rumoured for April 2015 Launch

Microsoft SurfaceMicrosoft is reportedly planning to launch the next major update to Windows, currently codenamed Threshold but most likely called Windows 9 on release, in April 2015.

According to a report by blogger Paul Thurrott, Microsoft is trying to address the criticisms faced by the Windows 8 OS – which Thurrott says “is tanking harder than Microsoft is comfortable discussing in public”.

One major step is reintroducing the Start Menu, as well as a complete redesign of the Modern (or Metro) UI, which was designed with Microsofts Surface tablets – which have also failed to take off – in mind.

Its the beginning of an attempt to unify Microsofts various platforms, including Windows Phone and RT. Its notable that Windows 8 made the same promise, however, and has only succeeded in damaging Microsofts reputation. With another 15 months until the reported launch, the new OS will have its work cut out when it arrives.
