Nest unveils affordable connected thermostat

Nest Thermostat EAlphabet’s home automation company Nest has released the latest in its connected thermostat line with the unveiling of the Nest Thermostat E.

The Thermostat E comes with a new, simpler look and a lower price point than the Nest Learning Thermostat. Along with the new look, the device also features a frosted display – which is designed to blend into the home by letting light out but not letting it in – and more simple scheduling. For the most part, it is exactly the same as the Learning Thermostat with it turning off when nobody is home and having the ability to change temperature from a phone, laptop, smartwatch, or voice assistant, as well as the other features Nest thermostats are known for.

The Nest Thermostat E is available from the Nest website, as well as leading retailers and Nest energy partners, in the US for $169.

“In 2011, we reinvented the thermostat category to make it easy for people to save energy,” said Matt Rogers, co-founder and chief product officer at Nest. “Fast forward six years: Nest owners have saved more than 14 billion kWh — the equivalent of providing electricity to all the homes in New York State for over 100 days — and now we are bringing beautiful design and proven energy saving capabilities into even more homes. To do that, we needed to simplify. The more subtle look and feel of the Nest Thermostat E will seamlessly blend into any environment. It’s everything our customers have come to know and love from Nest thermostats with a renewed focus on user simplicity and control.”
