Time Warner pens deal with Snapchat to produce exclusive shows

SnapchatUS mass media and entertainment company Time Warner is set to team up with Snap to develop original made-for-Snap shows over the next two years.

The deal will see Time Warner develop and produce three to five minute shows for Snapchat from across its networks and entertainment companies, which include Warner Bros., HBO and Turner. On top of programming, Time Warner will also invest in advertising from the three companies mentioned above on Snapchat over the next two years.

“Partnering with Snap will help drive this compelling new format, exposing its user base to innovative and engaging video from brands and characters they trust and enjoy,” said Gary Ginsberg, EVP of corporate marketing and communications at Time Warner. “We’re confident this partnership will help drive larger audiences to our shows and to the new direct to consumer platforms we continue to rollout.”

Through the partnership, Time Warner will help see a significant surge in the number of shows on Snapchat – helping to achieve Snap’s target of having three shows airing per day by the end of this year.

“This partnership is another exciting step as we continue to branch out into new genres, including scripted dramas, comedies, daily news Shows, documentaries, and beyond,” said Nick Bell, VP of content at Snap.

This latest deal furthers Snap’s efforts to get leading networks and studios onboard with exclusive content for its Snapchat platform. Since last year, the company has partnered with the likes of NBCUniversal, Disney,  BBC, MGM Television, and many more to produce shows.
