Apple Adds Nine More Manufacturers to CarPlay

Apple CarPlayApple has signed up nine more car manufacturers as partners to its CarPlay program: Audi, Fiat, Jeep, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Abarth, Dodge, Ram and Mazda.

The CarPlay system enables drivers to use selected iOS apps, via Siri voice commands and the cars own built-in controls. Currently confirmed functionality includes navigation, sending and receiving messages and calls, and listening to music and podcasts.

In total, 20 manufacturers have committed to the program, with Ferrari, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo all set to offer CarPlay integration into models starting this year. Aftermarket systems will also be available from Pioneer and Alpine for owners of cars without a built-in CarPlay system.
