Intel has signed a deal with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to become an official Olympic partner through 2024.

The deal will see Intel join ‘The Olympic Partner’ (TOP) worldwide sponsorship program and work to use its 5G platforms, VR, 3D and 360° content development platforms, AI platforms, drones, and other solutions to enhance the Olympics experience.

“We are excited to join the Olympic Movement and integrate Intel’s innovative technologies to advance the Olympic Games experience for fans around the world,” said Brian Krzanich, Intel CEO. “Through this close collaboration with the Olympic family, we will accelerate the adoption of technology for the future of sports on the world’s largest athletic stage.”

Intel’s role in advancing the Olympic Games experience will get its first run at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Here, Intel will prove real-time VR viewing of the Games.

In addition, Intel will also provide technological and content support for Olympic Broadcasting Services’ host broadcaster operations, as well as the Olympic channel. Intel will also use the Games to demonstrate its 5G platforms, use its drones to perform a light show displaying ‘never-before-seen images in the sky’, and provide 360° replays to fans – in the future, enabling TV viewers to experience what it’s like at the front row of an Olympic event or to watch it from several different viewing points.
