Acer Starbreeze, Google, HTC Vive, Facebook’s Oculus, Samsung and Sony have teamed up to create the Global Virtual Reality Association (GVRA) – a non-profit organisation to promote the growth of the global VR industry.
The GVRA is comprised of international VR headset makers to develop and share best practices for industry, while fostering dialogue between public and private stakeholders around the world. It aims to promote responsible development and adoption of VR globally.
Many of the association’s members are in direct competition but they will put their differences aside to develop and share best practices, conduct research and aim to bring the international VR community together as the technology progresses. In addition, the GVRA will look to serve as a resource for consumers, policymakers, and industry interested in VR.
On the association’s official website, it says: “The group believes VR’s immense global potential and the opportunities ahead – it will change the landscape of education, training, healthcare, and design, among other areas.
“While seeking to educate consumers, governments, and industry about VR’s potential, the association wants to get ahead of challenges with developing and deploying the technology responsibily.”
